Denise Victorine, a great lady in the Mark Twain community, deserves recognition for the exceptional work she has done in the last few years. Through many of our local organizations and by personally helping individuals she is one of the outstanding people in the area.
One of her projects has been managing the food distribution at the Community Center (old fire station) in Mark Twain (Storey County) for the last two years. Her organizational skill and willingness to serve her neighbors of the predominately low income area built a strong volunteer crew to distribute the fresh food donated by Commissioner Lance Gilman through the Mustang Cares Foundation.
During the bi-weekly food distribution she also shared information for various community social services including Community Chest, RSVP and other organizations. In addition to the food, the distribution days provided a opportunity for both the volunteers and the people they were serving to get to know each other better in the last two years.

Both rural AND urban Nevada received a much-needed gift last legislative session when the "Volunteer Health Care Services Act" was introduced by Assemblyman Tom Grady of Yerington. With support from dozens of additional Nevada legislators, and testimony from Lyon County Human Services Director Edrie Lavoie, the nonprofit Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey, Lyon County Commission, and pro bono work by former State Senator Ernie Adler and advocacy by many citizen advocates from throughout Nevada, the bill passed into law last summer.
